Therapy for teens (parents)

As a parent, you want the best for your teenager. You understand that adolescence is a complex and challenging phase of life, filled with confusion, pain, and angst. At times, it may feel like you and your teenager are speaking different languages, struggling to connect and understand each other.

Therapy for teens is designed to bridge that gap and provide a safe and supportive space for your teenager to navigate this transformative journey.

My focus is on empowering your teenager to develop essential skills for coping with stress, managing emotions, building healthy relationships, and finding their authentic identity.

Through a collaborative and non-judgmental approach, I establish a trusting relationship with your teenager. Creating a space where your teenager can freely express their thoughts, feelings, and concerns without fear of judgment or criticism.

The therapy sessions also provide an opportunity for you, as a parent, to gain valuable insights into your teenager's world. I offer guidance and support to help you navigate the challenges of parenting an adolescent, providing strategies to enhance communication, set appropriate boundaries, and strengthen your relationship.

Assessment:

Intake assessment is the first step of the process, it begins with completing an initial evaluation, which is sent through email, followed by subsequent intake sessions. The intake assessment process typically takes two sessions where we start exploring what brings your teen to therapy. This assessment serves as a comprehensive evaluation that enables me to gain a thorough understanding of your teen's situation and history, in order to craft a personalized treatment.

As part of the intake evaluation, it is my usual practice to involve at least one parent. In certain cases, I arrange separate meetings with parents to gather important information without the presence of their teen. Alternatively, I may conduct the initial appointment with both you and your teen present. However, if your teen expresses a preference for individual sessions, it is necessary for me to have a conversation about the confidentiality boundaries at the outset of therapy, ensuring that a parent is present to ensure clarity and mutual understanding.

Each individual therapy session last 45 minutes, allowing for focused and effective treatment. Initially, we schedule weekly sessions to establish a strong therapeutic foundation. As your teen progresses in treatment, we may gradually reduce the frequency of our meetings over time, adapting to their needs and progress.
